Chris Brown – Water Hygiene/Legionella Consultant & Trainer
BSc(Hons) FWMSoc MIHEEM Authorising Engineer
We are delighted that Chris Brown is part of our associate consultancy team, with 30 years’ experience within the water treatment and water hygiene industry; he really is an expert in his field. He is a chemist by qualification and is Elected Fellow of the Water Management Society.
In the early days of his career, Chris spent ten years as a technical consultant in the Industrial Water Treatment market and in 1989 formed his own consultancy which was later acquired as an extremely successful business, by SSPLc (South Staffs Water).
Chris became a director of IWS in 2006 and managing director in 2014, retiring from the organisation and set up his own specialist consultancy. Alongside his specialist risk assessment work, Chris now appears as a guest speaker at legionella events, provides consultancy support in policy writing, contractor auditing and tender specification, including as a specialist associate for Housing H&S Compliance UK Ltd and The Social Housing Safety Network Scotland.
Chris is an accredited trainer with City and Guilds, British Occupational Health Society and Highfield Accreditation Body for Compliance (HABC) and provides senior level responsible person and legionella awareness training courses (hot & cold water). He has also carried out water hygiene and legionella risk assessments on a wide variety of sites, including within the social housing sector and has also been involved in a number of legionella cases over the years, associated with domestic systems; he routinely supports clients with incident investigation and problem systems.
Chris contributed to the development of “guidance and the specification for water services risk assessment (BSRIA FMS 4/99)” with BSRIA. He served a four-year term with the LCA where he contributed to the rewrite of HSG274 part 1. His contribution to the water hygiene industry led to his election as a Fellow of the Water Management Society. He is also a Member of The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management.
Vicki has known Chris for a number of years, working with him at seminars and events to raise awareness of Legionellosis and sharing his knowledge with others around the specific elements of water hygiene management.
